Robotic toys are a lot of fun and entertainment and they can be spectacular, educational toys also. Robotic toys have been advanced and refined quite a bit since Leonardo da Vinci's model, and the first robot toy was man-made in 1939 when Westinghouse created Elektro, a human-like robot, and his robot dog companion Sparky. A smaller version, the Omnibot 2000, was a toy robot advanced during the 1980's.
A enterprise called WowWee created the most advanced human-like robotic toy hailed the Robosapien in 2004. Priced at under (Us), the first cost-effective, mass-produced humanoid sold four million units and gave life to the buyer robot industry.
The robot shop has continued to grow at a very rapid pace. In the gift day there is an addition desire of buying and using robots either it's a toy for our children, a protection theory or a lawn mower, adults and kids equally share in using them.
What is a Furby?
Furby is a 'robot' electronic pet, perhaps the first truly popular electronic pet and the first introduction for many households to the electronic revolution soon to sweep through toy market the world over. Oftentimes credited with far more Ai (artificial Intelligence) than they well possessed, Furbies even caused a ruckus in the brain community when the rumour went round that they could repeat what they had heard - the net ensue being that some brain agencies banned them from their offices! Alas, there was no truth in the rumour - the Furby is well quite a simple toy, well by today's standards.
Furby was introduced to an unsuspecting world in late 1998 by its maker Tiger Electronics and went on to be the 'must-have' toy for the next few years, selling over 40 million units in its first three years. The primary Furbies were 6 inches tall with a heart shaped infra-red port and light sensor on their face (used to narrate with other Furbies). Out of the box, they were programmed to speak Furbish, but 'learned' to speak English over time. This is someone else base misconception; they did not well learn English but rather were pre-programmed to gently switch to speaking in English. World Book Dictionary defines robot as "a motor made in imitation of a human being; a mechanical gadget that does disposition work in response to commands." I met my first robot in 1979 at the Texas Instruments plant in Austin, where it delivered mail. Despite early promises to the contrary, robots today are found not in the home, but primarily in factories.
